Arsenal’s blockbuster summer signing Mesut Ozil sat down with Arsene Wenger for his first interview as a Gunner and ended it with the line “I am a Gunner”

Arsenal travel to the stadium of lights this Satuday to play Sunderland and all eyes are at Ozil as the £42.5million signing from Real Madrid is expected to make his Arsenal debut. Arsenal fans have been waiting patiently for a week due to the International matches to see Ozil don the red and white jersey and it finally happened today as Ozil started his training session in the London Colney before the press conference and was seen close to his German compatriots Podolski and Mertesacker.

Ozil has started out with some postive thoughts to his Arsenal carrer. The midfielder when asked about the Gunner’s title challenge said:

“I know the team, I know that talent we have here and I think every player wants to be successful. It will be difficult because this is the strongest league in the world.”
Ozil, who is Arsenal’s record signing, could feature for his new team when they face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday quotes BBC.

“I have watched a lot of Premier League games,” he said. “It is very physical here but I am really glad to play in the best league in the world.
“I want to prove myself in England and I look forward to playing here. I know I will prove myself here.”

He added: “We want to play offensive and good football. To keep clean sheets and play attractive football.
“I can’t promise to win trophies but I can promise as a team we will give our all to achieve this.”

And the Arsenal manager went on to explain about the club’s reluctance to spend big and explained that it was down to him as he wanted the club to have a sound financial ground before spending it and now that they have achieved it, he was happy to spend.

I fight for the teams to spend the money they have made and not artificially earned,” BBC Sport quotes Wenger as saying. “Once we have made that money I am happy to spend it. It is also important for us to find world-class players.

“We had to go through some years where we had restricted financial potential. We are now in a stronger position financially.

“Honestly, I think [Ozil’s signing] was linked with Gareth Bale’s transfer. I don’t know exactly what happened inside Madrid. Was it down to financial reasons? Maybe they had to let someone go, I was surprised.”
