Bournemouth player ratings vs West Ham United: Who impressed and who did not?

AFC Bournemouth pulled off a miracle at London Stadium as the Cherries came back from a goal down to register a 2-1 victory over Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham United. The win marks their second consecutive win after a 2-0 home win against Cardiff City on the opening day of the season.

West Ham took the lead in the first half as Marko Arnautovic slotted a penalty kick past Asmir Begovic after Nathan Ake had tripped Javier Hernández in the penalty area.

However, Eddie Howe’s side forged a tremendous comeback in the second half. Callum Wilson, guilty of missing a sitter in the first half, made up for his missed opportunity with a piece of individual brilliance. After receiving the ball at the half-line mark, Wilson marauded his way through the West Ham defence and avoided the diving challenges of a couple of defenders to place the ball past goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

The Cherries showed remarkable character throughout the second half and six minutes later, centre-back Steve Cook headed it in from close-range off a free kick from the edge of the box to give Bournemouth a shock lead.

West Ham have every reason to be livid with themselves as they let the lead slip in the second half and crumbled to a second back-to-back defeat.

Asmir Begovic – 8/10

The lanky goalkeeper looked composed between the sticks throughout the game and made a few sharp saves especially in the first half.

Charlie Daniels – 7/10

Playing on the left side of the back line, Daniels looked good with his positioning and prevented Robert Snodgrass from supplying crosses into the penalty area.

Nathan Ake – 7/10

He made the crucial error that led to the penalty goal but the former Chelsea man was quite solid at the back against Arnautovic and company.

Steve Cook – 8/10

Cook maintained good shape throughout the game and did not make any significant errors. He headed home the winner for Bournemouth.

Adam Smith – 7/10

The former England U21 right-back played with composure and shut the door on Felipe Anderson on many occasions. He ventured forward whenever the opportunity presented itself.

Ryan Fraser – 7.5/10

The 24-year-old Scottish international played well down the left-wing and added an extra edge to Bournemouth’s attack in the second half. He also helped out the defenders in times of need.

Daniel Gosling – 7/10

Playing at the heart of the midfield, Gosling played his role efficiently. He closed down spaces in the second half which helped the Cherries dominate the game.

Andrew Surman – 7/10

The former Southampton man partnered Gosling in central midfield and was impressive with his work rate. In the second half, he read the game well and made some good passes to set up the attacks.

David Brooks – 7.5/10

The Welshman was active down the right side for the Cherries. He got the opportunity to shoot twice in the first half but failed to hit the target. In the second half, it was his run that led to the free-kick from which the goal was scored.

Joshua King – 6.5/10

The former Manchester United man partnered Callum Wilson in the attacking third. He often drifted to the wide areas but did not quite play to his potential.

Callum Wilson – 8.5/10

Callum Wilson’s moment of individual brilliance played a key role in Bournemouth’s remarkable fightback. He powered his way past five defenders to score the first goal. Throughout the game, his movement on and off the ball caused a lot of problems for the Hammers’ back line.
