Everton player ratings vs Rotherham – Here’s who fired for Marco Silva’s men

Everton booked their place in the third round of this year’s Carabao Cup by beating Rotherham United 3-1 at Goodison Park. A brace from Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the second half, preceded by Gylfi Sigurdsson’s strike in the first-half rounded of an easy win for the Toffees.

Rotherham got a goal back through Will Vaulks when the score was 2-0, but Everton netted again to keep control of the game even in the late stages. Manager Marco Silva rotated his line-up for this tie and let’s take a look how each player fared:

Everton Player Ratings

Maarten Stekelenburg (5/10)

Looked nervy throughout the game, might be the end of his tenure as Everton’s No.2 if the young Joao Virginia keeps impressing.

Jonjoe Kenny

Jonjoe Kenny (6.5/10)

A promising performance from the teenager, who looked threatening going forward. He needs to work on his defensive aspects.

Mason Holgate (6/10)

Was defensively solid, however, the youngster became shaky when asked to get the ball out from the back.

Kurt Zouma (6/10)

His first start for Everton, so there were nerves jangling in the early parts. However, the Frenchman settled down as the game progressed.

Lucas Digne (7.5/10)

Impressive display from the former Barcelona man. Assisted the second goal for Everton and looked threatening all game.

Tom Davies

Tom Davies (6/10)

Captain on the night, started the game with nerves all over the place, however, he calmed himself down in the second half and played well.

Kieran Dowell (5.5/10)

Played in an unfamiliar position, and hence looked a bit out of depth at times.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (7/10)

Linked up the play between the midfield and the attack with utmost regularity. Got a goal which was deserving of his performance.

Sandro Ramirez (7/10)

A lively performance, linking up play and also pressing high to induce mistakes from the opposition. Needs to improve his final product.

Dominic Calvert Lewin

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (7.5/10)

Scored two very good goals to cap off a very good display. The second goal was simply outstanding.

Oumar Niasse (3.5/10)

A very bad day at the office for the striker, who seemed to be on a different wavelength to every other player.

Substitute

Theo Walcott (Subbed on after 66 mins) (5/10)

Didn’t do much upon arrival and allowed Sigurdsson a 25-minute break by replacing him.

Cenk Tosun (Subbed on after 73 mins) (5/10)

The game lacked the eb and flow by the time Tosun arrived.
