Opinion: Does Pedro Still Have A Future With Chelsea?

Pedro came to Chelsea in search of more game time, but this season he has had less minutes of the field than he did last season at Barcelona. Since Jose Mourinho left the club, Interim manager Guus Hiddink has favoured using Oscar and Willian on the wings and Pedro has had to settle for a place on the bench.

It will be interesting to see which manager comes in at the end of the season as to whether Pedro will be at Stamford Bridge next season. Pedro was a great player for Barcelona, he only the only reason he didn’t get much playing time was because Barca play with Messi, Suarez and Neymar.  When he is given a good run of games, there is no doubting of his ability. He is a player who has won every trophy available to him; The World Cup, Champions League, European Championship etc. To do that, you must be a pretty good player.

At Chelsea Pedro will be frustrated. He left the Champions League winners because he didn’t want to sit on the bench every week. He could have stayed at Barca, collecting his weekly wage and adding more trophies, but credit to him he wanted to leave and get more playing time.

At the time, a move to Chelsea seemed like a sensible decision. Early performances suggested Pedro was a great signing. He is a team player with a very good work ethic, the high-tempo playing style needed to adapt to the Premier League, and the quality to create and convert scoring chances. The Spaniard has 4 goals  and two assists in 24 appearances since scoring on his debut against West Brom.

Pedro will be worried about his lack of playing time this season because he will want to make Spain’s Euro 2016 squad this summer, however, it is unlikely he will not be in the squad because Spain manager Vicente Del Bosque like to have proven players in his squad like Pedro.

Clubs around Europe will be scouting Pedro if he does decide to leave Chelsea. Chelsea are rumoured to be interested in signing Atletico Madrid winger Antoine Griezmann, Pedro could be part of any deal which may occur between the two clubs. This could potentially be a good deal for both teams.

Pedro has recently stated he is happy in London and does want to stay at Chelsea, but his future at the club will not be decided until the summer when a new manager comes in. It’s likely he will get another chance at Chelsea because of how well he did at Barcelona and with his talent there is no doubt he should. With today’s brace against Newcastle, The Spaniard will hope that he can take use that as a momentum to finish the season with more goals and assists.
