Opinion: 4 Players That Liverpool Need To Get Rid Of This Summer

Share

One big player out, one big problem out, Liverpool seem to have cashed in perfectly by selling Raheem Sterling to Manchester City. Liverpool will surely reinvest some of that money in the squad but before they go splashing the cash around, they still have a few players on their books who need to be shown the door. We look at those players who have no future at the club, at least for now.

1. Rickie Lambert

With the signings of Ings, Origi and Firmino, it seems Liverpool have got their attack all sorted out for next season. They could still be in the market for Christian Benteke which would make the role of Rickie minimal at the club. Lambert might have expected a larger role when he signed for his boyhood club but it seems that he is all set to be left out from the team all together and could use a move to another club to rekindle his career. Liverpool can’t expect a lot from his departure, but that is something they have to deal with.

2. Fabio Borini

Someone who wanted to fight for his place last season now says he is a caged animal and needs to be released. Borini did not accept a move away from Liverpool to Sunderland last season and now wants to move out. The Italian was one of Brendan Rodgers first signings, but it has not worked out for the former Italy U21 international. Borini’s chances will also be limited because of the number of attackers Liverpool have signed and he too needs a new challenge, probably away from the Premier League.

3. Joe Allen

A bit of a conundrum really, recently a certain Squawka stat comparison showed that Joe Allen was actually better than Bastian Schweinsteiger last season. Although stats don’t lie, we have a sneaky suspicion that the Welsh midfielder could leave the club. Allen hasn’t done really a lot for the club and more often than not people ask about his contribution to the playing style of Liverpool. Joe might be a decent player when he has a defensive midfielder with him but apart from that he doesn’t really provide Liverpool with a lot of positives when playing.

4. Jose Enrique

Time might be up for the Spaniard, his role at the club has gradually reduced under Rodgers and this could be the best time for him to find a new club. Liverpool already have a younger and better full-back in Alberto Moreno who should get better this season. Enrique might be a good squad player, but he might want to do more than be a bit part player for a club.
