3 Key Reasons Why Liverpool Can Defeat Manchester City

The big game of the weekend sees Manchester City host Liverpool while two seasons ago this match was important for the title, this game shows how far Manchester City have come and how far Liverpool have fallen off the track.

Manchester City though does not have the best of records against Liverpool, who are somewhat of a bogey team. The Premier League leaders though will be hopeful of a positive result as they look to stay at the top of the table. The Citizens should welcome back Sergio Aguero into their team, the Argentine would be looking to continue his goal scoring ways, but there is a major doubt on the fitness of Vincent Kompany and David Silva.

Liverpool aren’t doing any better on the injuries front with Jordan Henderson, Mamadou Sakho and James Milner doubts for the game. Daniel Sturridge has been declared fit but you never know when he could get injured, plus Klopp wouldn’t want to risk him and get him injured for a longer period of time.

Liverpool might have lost their last home game, but they did perform brilliantly against Chelsea to get the three points. This tasty fixture has had goals and a lot of them in the recent past and we provide three reasons why Liverpool could actually win the game.

  1. Counter attacking and pressing

Almost everyone has stated that Liverpool’s gameplay has completely changed thanks to Klopp and his Gegenpressing ways. The fact that almost every play pushes up to try and get the ball as soon as possible could well be the one way that Liverpool defeat Manchester City.

The Reds might not have the pace up front that they had when they defeated City at Anfield a couple of years ago but Liverpool do press high up the pitch and if they win the ball near the opposition goal, they could actually score than all important goal. Liverpool shouldn’t go for all-out attack but be smart about all this and hold back and hit City on the counter.

2. No Silva could be the deal clincher

Manchester City have somehow dealt with the absence of David Silva but they can only go that long without his creative genius. The fact that the Spaniard and Sergio Aguero could be out against Liverpool will come as great news for the Reds.

Manchester City aren’t as effective with Kevin de Bruyne or Raheem Sterling in the team, sure they have flashes of brilliance but they cannot seem to do it on a regular basis. Vincent Kompany also missing out would be another positive for Liverpool but can the Reds actually take advantage of this situation?

3. Philippe Coutinho to star again

If there is one player that Liverpool would be banking on to perform it is Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian has been a star for Liverpool since last season and after a slow start this season, he showed what he can do against Chelsea.

Playing in a role which gives him more freedom does help and he has registered the most shots on goal in the Premier League this season. He will play for the Reds and all hopes will be on him to score a goal or two and lead Liverpool to a much-needed victory as they chase a place in the top 4.
