Not Ox – Should Liverpool Look To Sign This Arsenal Attacker If They Fail To Sign Other Targets

Liverpool have managed to qualify for the Champions League late last season but not much has gone their way ever since. Even as the Virgil van Dijk saga has taken everyone by embarrassment, Liverpool are no closer to landing their second top transfer target Mohamed Salah yet.

Italian giants AS Roma are holding out for a fee of £35m for his services, which Liverpool are reportedly not ready to pay and with Roma not ready to decrease their asking price, the deal has now come to a standstill. This has seen Klopp already scout for other wingers, with the likes of Douglas Costa, Emre Mor and Gelson Martins linked with a move to the club this summer.

But one player they might look at is English winger Theo Walcott. Though not as consistent as a club in the English top flight would want him to be, Walcott is still one of the most exciting wingers in England. He was regular under Arsene Wenger at the start of the previous season but injuries and lack of form saw him sit out most of the action in the last couple of months of the season.

With Wenger moving to a 3-4-3 system, Walcott has not been able to establish himself in the first team ahead of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez and though one of them might leave this summer, it does not look like Walcott will be the first choice next season.

Known for his pace and versatility in the final third, the 28-year old is one of the most experienced wingers in the league at the moment. He has 19 goals and two assists in 37 games in the recent season and has been sparkling at times but Wenger does not seem to be happy with his performances and might be tempted to let him leave if the right offer his tabled.

Liverpool already have Sadio Mane playing as a right winger and Walcott is not moving for a place on the bench at Anfield. But can he operate on the other side? He is versatile and will not lose his creativity shifting flanks. His pace and finishing abilities will make Liverpool a far more attacking threat next season.

He is far from an Arsenal reject and many fans will feel that signing a player who is unable to get into the first team for the rivals, to hand over a first team place at Anfield, will be disastrous. The likes of Salah and Costa are an upgrade on Walcott and though his experience in England might come in handy, he might not exactly be the man to help Liverpool take the next step. Do you think Liverpool should look at Walcott if he is available this summer?
