Liverpool just managed to edge past Tottenham 2-1 at Anfield to stay in touch in this maverick Premier League title race. Roberto Firmino and a Toby Alderweireld own goal handed the home side the win, while Lucas Moura netted a deserving equaliser for the visitors earlier in the game.
Around the 16th minute, Andy Robertson produced a peach of a cross from the left-hand side to find the run of Firmino, who just had to get his header right to put Liverpool in front.
In a second half where Spurs played better and deserved a leveller, Moura was at the right place at the right time to score one 20 minutes from time.
A few minutes later, Moussa Sissoko had a great chance to finish off Liverpool, but he missed a sitter. Virgil van Dijk did well to block the angle for the Frenchman to find Son-Heung Min, but the Spurs man had to finish it off himself, which he didn’t.
In the 90th minute, a second phase of the corner fell to Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose cross found Mohamed Salah at the far post.
The Egyptian’s header towards the goal brought out an uncomfortable save from Hugo Lloris but the Frenchman parried his save into Alderweireld, and the ball hit the latter to go beyond the line.
At the end of the day, it was a crazy win for Liverpool, who are now two points clear at the top of the table, having played a game more than Manchester City.
