If reports are to be believed Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is likely to show the door to a number of stars this summer in order to make space for the new signings arriving at the White Hart Lane. Tottenham were guilty of self destructing at the end of last season which eventually left them in third position behind their North London rivals Arsenal, something not many people would have imagined going into the business end of the season. It is critical that the Manager brings in reinforcements before the start of next campaign in order to mount a serious title Challenge.
One player who is in particular danger of losing his place in the squad is English Midfielder Ryan Mason. The 24 year old midfielder has been linked to a move to other Premier League teams, in particular Crystal palace, who are interested in signing him after he was deemed surplus to requirements by Spurs boss. Mason who was a regular for Spurs in the 2014-15 campaign and got his England cap in a friendly against Italy last year, struggled hugely last season with injuries and fell down the pecking order with the emergence of Dele Alli.
The issue with Mason is that he seems to be stuck in one place while the rest of the Tottenham seems to have moved onto better and bigger things. The fact that Spurs are on the verge of penning a deal to get Southampton Viktor Wanyama to North London, should leave no doubts in English players mind that opportunities will be hard to come by next season and it is best him to part ways with the club.
Unfortunately for Mason, just as he was starting to look comfortable in a Tottenham shirt, the much improved Dembele took his place in the team, followed by bad luck injuries which left him unsure about what he was supposed to do. Although Mason fulfills the home grown quota, it is very unlikely that Tottenham are going to hold on to him, once Wanyama arrives from the South Coat. Mason still has a lot to offer in terms of quality and solidity, which is why a lot of teams around England will fighting for his signing, which is also one of the reasons, he should move as it would again give him a chance to be the focal point of a team, something he will never be able to get at Tottenham. Pochettino is known to have his favorites in the squad and isn’t too keen on squad rotation as long as the results are coming their way. It will be sensible move for Mason at this stage of his career to find a club where he can get regular playing time.
