First Liverpool and now Manchester United, you could not make things up but Victor Valdes has been training with Manchester United for the past few weeks, while Liverpool were in the running to sign the former Barcelona goalkeeper but it seems that United have taken the lead in getting the signature for the Spanish goalkeeper.
It seems to be a matter of time before he does get the contract from Manchester United and that would be a brilliant signing since Valdes has almost won everything there is in football and while he should have been playing at Monaco, United signing him isn’t the worst bit of news, at least for Valdes.
From Barcelona to United?
Valdes should have been playing at Monaco but the club decided not to sign him after his contract expired at Barcelona and he suffered a knee injury during a league game which ended his season early. Valdes has been on the road to recovery ever since and has been in a bitter battle with Monaco regarding his contract and playing status at the club.
Liverpool were leading the race to sign him but United could beat their rivals to the player and this would mean a lot of competition for the goalkeeping position. Valdes is 32 years old and still has a few good years ahead of him, especially because he is a goalkeeper, where players often play into their late 30’s.
Signing Valdes would probably mean that either Lindegaard or De Gea would be moving and it would seem that United would be replacing one Spaniard with another. Valdes would not sign for any club to be a number 2 goalkeeper and would want to play games. If United do sign him he would be a replacement for De Gea while Lindegaard would probably stay as the number two goalkeeper for the club.
De Gea has attracted a lot of interest over the past few months with Real Madrid lurking to sign the goalkeeper to replace a legend, Iker Casillas. Casillas has been replaced by De Gea in the Spanish national team and it could be a matter of time before he is replaced by the young United goalkeeper at Real Madrid.
Louis Van Gaal would not be giving the opportunity for a player to train at the club without having an idea or plan in his mind and Valdes would be a good signing, on the cheap and selling David De Gea would mean that Real Madrid would have to pay a pretty large sum to ensure that they get their signing. Economics runs football more than anything now and selling De Gea for a region of £25-30 million and signing Valdes for 3-4 years would make sound economic sense, the major factor is how badly do Real want De Gea? Those answers could be provided in January or may be in the summer.
