Man United’s pacy forwards would thrive well if Solskjaer signs this Spanish magician in January – opinion

Manchester United should rekindle interest in Saul Niguez

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clearly prioritized the defence in the summer transfer window when it came down to the rebuilding job required at Manchester United.

He’s got a very young forward line that might not be ready for the time being but is more than good enough to be ready in 2 years or maybe even in a year’s time.

One area that should be reinforced in the near future is the midfield. It’s Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata on their last legs. The hard-working Jesse Lingard and Scott McTominay are there but their only star name in that midfield is Paul Pogba, who struggled with consistency and can only produce in moments and not for the full 90 minutes.

Paul Pogba

They have some extremely talented midfielders coming through the ranks in Dylan Levitt, James Garner and Angel Gomes but they are too young to be playing in positions of such responsibility.

This is why Manchester United should look to rekindle their interest in Ateltico Madrid’s Saul Niguez, who was linked with a move in the summer window. The 24-year-old is already a very important part of the Spanish national team and is in many ways a very complete central midfielder.

He’s an extremely hard-working and tenacious midfielder, an outstanding dribbler, a good passer like most Spanish players and can chip in with goals and assists. He scored 6 goals and 3 assists last season.

He is the typical central midfield player capable of doing everything required in the midfield. He has already made 252 appearances for Atletico Madrid and has 16 national caps, which is only going to increase.

Saul

One thing that United struggle with because of the likes of Pogba is their ability to retain possession of the ball and Saul would help them massively, especially in tight areas, which will allow them to initiate attacks quickly and get the ball to their pacy forwards, who can wreak havoc.

If United make a move for him, it’ll be clear that they’re headed in the right direction and that their recruitment has finally improved after years of using a scatter-gun approach.
