Manchester United International Break Roundup: What Were The Players Upto?

Share

The International break is not the best thing for club football, most national teams have to play high-pressure games within a week and all the travel does take a huge toll on the players as well. The international break has also seen its fair share of injuries to players and the same has taken place this time around with quite a few big names getting injured during international duty.

The biggest clubs have to let go of their players for the national teams and Manchester United have a plethora of international players in their team. The need to release them at least ensures that everyone does stay fit for the upcoming Premier League games this weekend.

We look at what the stars at Manchester United have done for their teams during the international break.

England

Wayner Rooney

With Wayne Rooney being withdrawn from the squad due to an injury, Manchester United’s representatives for the English team were Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. While they faced lightweight opponents Lithuania and Estonia, England did win both the games and both players played one game each. England will now head to the Euros with a 100% record in the qualification campaign but should face sterner tests in the coming days.

Spain

Juan Mata and David de Gea are the two players who were playing in the Red of Spain during the international break and also play in the Red of Manchester United. De Gea played the second game against the Ukraine and he starred in the 1-0 win while Juan Mata came on as a second-half substitute against Ukraine but he had a more prominent role in the first game when he came on after 10 minutes to replace David Silva against Luxembourg, Spain did win that game 4-0.

Holland

Daley Blind and Memphis Depay still have a lot of work to ensure that Holland don’t miss out on the Euros. The pair played the entire game for the Dutch in their 2-1 win over Kazakhstan and will he hoping for a similar performance as they hope to defeat the Czech Republic and hope for the best to qualify for Euro 2016.

Ecuador

Antonio Valencia’s Ecuador team pulled off one of the shocks in this international break with a marvellous 2-0 win against Argentina as they look to qualify for the World Cup. They still have to face Bolivia in this break and Valencia will be hopeful for another three points for his country.

Italy

Matteo Darmian

Matteo Darmian started for the Italian national team in their 1-3 win over Azerbaijan as he looks to get back into the amazing form he was in at the start of the season for Manchester United and has also started for the Italian team against Norway.
