Otamendi Back In And Sane Sits Out: Strongest Manchester City Lineup To Face Liverpool

Predicted Manchester City Lineup To Face Liverpool

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City face Jurgen Klopp’s Reds on Sunday at the Etihad stadium as the two sides battle it out for the top 4 contentions. After being eliminated from the Champions League after a 3-1 loss to Monaco, City will be hoping to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola will be frustrated after letting a two-goal aggregate lead slip away from them in France but with a relatively strong team, he could fancy getting a result against Klopp’s men at home.

Team News:

Vincent Kompany is still ruled out due to injury and Aleksander Kolarov has been filling in for the Belgian. Long-term absentees Gabriel Jesus and Ilkay Gundogan remain unavailable as well.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Willy Caballero (GK):

The Argentine shot-stopper has been in the first team after Claudio Bravo’s poor performances have made way for the Caballero.

Bacary Sagna (RB):

Has been featuring more often this season after coming up the pecking order ahead of Pablo Zabaleta. Has been reliable for City and his experience and crossing ability will come in handy against Liverpool.

Nicolas Otamendi (CB):

Expected to back in the lineup after being left out for the tie against Monaco.

John Stones (CB):

The most expensive defender in the Manchester City squad has had a season to forget and he will have to be at his best to keep out Liverpool attackers.

Gael Clichy (LB):

The French full-back should start despite Kolarov being available. Clichy is really dangerous while going forward for the attack and Pep will be banking on the Frenchman to deliver.

Raheem Sterling (RW):

Will be determined to prove a point against his former club. Sterling has been utilised nicely by Guardiola and has been a revelation for Manchester City.

Yaya Toure (CM):

Has made the defensive midfield position his own since returning and the big Ivorian will have to be up for a battle of physicality and pace when their opponents visit.

Fernandinho (CM):

Fernandinho has struggled when asked to get forward for attacks. However, he thrives on being the silent man in midfield and winning the ball back. This should keep things ticking for his side.

David Silva (CAM):

The Spanish playmaker is the key to making the forwards link up the play and open the game up. His skills and reading of the game are second to none and is a crucial player for Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne (LW):

Provides great deliveries from almost anywhere on the pitch and is influential in carrying the ball forward turning defence into attacks in a jiffy. A thorough threat to the Liverpool defenders.

Sergio Aguero (ST):

Has been frustrated of late due to lack of goals and service, but there is no denying that he is still one of the most lethal strikers in the world.
