According to Lancs Live, Manchester United have scouted the Benfica centre-back, Ruben Dias, with the report claiming that the Red Devils were in attendance on Wednesday to witness the Portuguese defender in action.
The report also adds that Dias’ release clause is worth €66m and currently, he is in talks with the clubs over the extension of his contract. (h/t Lancs Live)
The 22-year-old has ingrained his name as one of the most promising centre-backs, helping Benfica win the league title the last term while also playing a pivotal role in Portugal’s Nations League win last month.
Notably, Dias bagged the Portuguese top-flight’s Young Player of the Season in his debut season.
One of the intriguing things about this highly-rated centre-back is that he has already earned 11 international caps within 2 years.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is speeding up the rebuild works and defensive reinforcements have to be his priority at the moment.
Experienced defenders like Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Ashley Young largely failed to pull the strings together in the previous season, resulting in chaos. Hence, the Norwegian manager should look for reinforcements accordingly in order to cope without the aforementioned stars.
With that being said, chasing youngsters will never go askew and Dias looks more of an optimal solution.
Dias has already proven himself as one of the emerging stars and a move to the Premier League at this stage of his career will get him more spotlight.

In terms of defensive stats last season, the Portuguese man was a cut above the rest with an average pass success percentage of 86, 1.4 tackles and 3.6 clearances per game.
The Red Devils have been productive so far in the ongoing transfer window with the signings of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Yet, they have to find the perfect centre-half – someone who is compatible with Swedish international Victor Lindelof.
To that end, Dias is definitely worth his sumptuous release clause.
