Manchester United Opinion: Why Manchester United should make a move for Bruno Fernandes

The Evening Standard has reported that Manchester United are now seriously considering a summer move for Sporting Lisbon superstar Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese star has been in phenomenal form for the Liga Nos side this season and is easily among their best players.

Not only that, Fernandes has played most of their games this season and has been crucial for the title race. Since he arrived from Sampdoria, the 24-year-old has been downright incredible for Sporting CP, finishing last season with 16 goals and 20 assists.

This season, Bruno Fernandes has taken things to another level, with 24 goals and 14 assists in just 43 appearances. This includes a 9-game period, where the 24-year-old scored and assisted 12 goals.

That statistic shows just how much he has improved since his spell in Italy and more so, exactly why Manchester United need to make a move.

At the moment, the club depend far too much on Paul Pogba and while he produces more often than not, it’s a heavy burden. He is effectively their only creative midfielder, with Juan Mata’s contract expiring at the end of the season.

That has seen the pressure get dumped upon the 24-year-old’s shoulders, which Pogba has handled quite admirably.

However, there is only so much he can do alone, with teams often marking him out of the game. This has caused more than its fair share of issues but if they had someone like Bruno Fernandes, it would help everyone.

The Portuguese is tall and strong enough to shield the ball but at the same time, he has a great centre of gravity, allowing him to switch direction in an instant. But that is not his speciality, as much like Pogba, Fernandes is a creative genius.

The 24-year-old has a stunning long-range pass in his locker, a crossing vision to match and isn’t afraid to shoot from distance. That combined with his vision and creativity in the final third make him a menace.

Furthermore, despite being an attacking midfielder, the 24-year-old has a mean streak and makes quite a few tackles defensively. He has averaged 1.7 tackles per game but also 1.8 fouls per game this season, showing just how aggressive he can be.

That’s what makes him perfect for the Premier League, as it will allow him to adapt much easier.

Conclusion

Bruno Fernandes is a class act and one that Manchester United need to make a move for. He does have a release clause of around €100million (ESPN), that is something that is negotiable. The Portuguese star would be a brilliant addition, and more importantly help take the burden off Paul Pogba.
