Man United Opinion: Lozano would be an ideal replacement for Sanchez

According to the Mirror, Man United have stepped up their interest in PSV Eindhoven winger Hirving Lozano in a bid to hijack Napoli’s move for the 23-year-old Mexican international.

The same report claims that Napoli are prepared to offer £34 million to bring Lozano to the Serie A.

Italian publication La Gazzeta dello Spot that the Red Devils have already held talks with agent Mino Raiola, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season.

Lozano has been on United’s radar since the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia where he starred for Mexico, scoring the winner in a 1-0 group stage victory over Germany. The 23-year-old has been in blistering form for PSV this season, racking up 19 goals and 9 assists in all competitions.

He impressed in the Champions League as well, scoring once as the Dutch champions crashed out in the group stages.

Predominantly a right-footed attacker, Lozano is at his best when deployed as an inverted winger down the left.

A fast, agile and skilful winger with plenty of flair and trickery on the ball, Lozano combines his good turn of pace with his ability to change directions quickly to cut inside from the flanks, where he either has a crack on goal with his stronger right foot or tees it up for his teammates.

A technically-gifted attacker with wonderful close control and good body balance, Lozano likes room down the wide areas and he is adept at creating chances by attacking the spaces.

Lozano is not only about pace and flair but he has a lot more to his game, with his tactical intelligence, ability to set up goals with key passes and immaculate crossing making him very much a complete player.

His composure in front of goal and finishing have also improved in recent times and he is now capable of tasting success in any of Europe’s top five leagues.

To put things into perspective, Man United would bag a massive coup if they manage to get their hands of the Mexican speed wizard in the summer.

With Solskjaer looking to build a squad capable of challenging for silverware, the acquisition of Lozano would definitely be a strong statement of intent from the Red Devils.

Lozano can be devastating with his pace during counter-attacking situations, and given that Solskjaer has often adopted a counter-attacking philosophy, the Mexican can be a welcome addition to United’s squad.

He is very much capable of taking on defenders in one-on-one situations and moves the ball around quickly, using short exchanges and subtle layoffs to link up with his teammates.

United have flourished under Solskjaer’s attacking style and Lozano’s attributes would definitely make him a good fit at Old Trafford.

United are likely to offload Alexis Sanchez in the summer and Lozano would be an ideal replacement for the underwhelming Chilean.

Moreover, his ability to play in multiple positions in the final third should increase competition for the likes of Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard. Lozano certainly won’t come cheap but United should leave no stone unturned in their efforts to bring him to the club.
