Predicted Manchester United Line-up To Face Swansea City In The Carabao Cup

Manchester United suffered their first defeat of the season at the weekend as Premier League newbies Huddersfield Town inflicted a 2-1 defeat on the Red Devils at the Kirklees. Jose Mourinho’s men have a chance of getting back to winning ways quickly when they travel to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea City in the Round of 16 of the Carabao Cup.

The Swans beat Reading in the previous round and with Mourinho expected to rest some of his first-team stars, Swansea might have a better chance of progressing to the quarterfinals of the competition.

Team News

Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick, Paul Pogba and Marcos Rojo remain sidelined with long-term injuries while English international Phil Jones, who picked up a knock recently, is expected to be fit for this tie. Zlatan remains the only other absentee for the Red Devils.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Jose Mourinho

GK – Sergio Romero

With De Gea needing some rest, Mourinho has a chance to use his second choice, Romero in goal for this tie.

RB – Matteo Darmian

The Italian has not been able to break into the first-team this season but will get a chance to impress against Swansea.

Chris Smalling

CB – Chris Smalling

With Bailly still not completely fit, Mourinho should use Smalling as the senior presence in the backline for his side.

CB – Victor Lindelof

Though he has still not settled into life at Old Trafford, Lindelof, who had a torrid time against the Terriers is expected to partner Smalling at the back.

LB – Daley Blind

The Dutch ace has not been able to impress the manager either but will have to put in a solid show against the Swans if he gets to start.

CM – Ander Herrera

The Spaniard has fallen down the pecking order this season but Mourinho should give him a chance in the midfield on this trip to Liberty.

CM – Nemanja Matic

The Serbian remains the only other midfielder to be fit and should partner Herrera in this game.

RW – Ashley Young

Though Young has been used as a defensive option by the manager this season, he can be effective as a winger as well and should be given a chance in his more natural role.

CAM – Juan Mata

The Spaniard is also finding game time hard to come by but should start this game in the no.10 role, playing right behind Anthony Martial.

Anthony Martial

LW – Jesse Lingard

Lingard is an automatic starter for United in these cup games and is expected to start on the left-hand side of the attack.

ST – Anthony Martial

With Lukaku not 100% fit, Mourinho should not take any risks and should use Martial, who has been in sizzling form of late.
