Sheffield Wednesday

Luhukay to make 6 changes – Predicted 3-4-3 Sheffield Wednesday XI to face Wolves

Predicted Sheffield Wednesday line-up to face Wolves in the EFL Cup

Sheffield Wednesday got a narrow 2-1 win against a ten-men Ipswich Town to continue their resurgence in the league. It was their second win in as many games and it put their slow start behind. They got past Sunderland in the previous round of this tournament, with manager Jos Luhukay making changes for that match.

Expect him to do the same for this game as the Owls look to concentrate on doing well in the league. Cup competitions might not be on their radar as of now, and to add to that, facing last year’s champions of the Championship won’t be an easy task at all.

Team News

There are no such injury concerns for Luhukay to take note of, however, he is expected to rotate his first-choice line-up and field a back-three, just like he deployed against Sunderland. Expect the likes of Frederick Fisker and Joost van Aken to get a place in the defence.

Probable Sheffield Wednesday XI

Manager: Jos Luhukay

Formation: 3-4-3

Joe Wildsmith (GK)

Wildsmith has been second-choice to Cameron Dawson so far, and may have to suffice by playing cup games.

Frederik Fisker (RCB)

The young Danish defender played in the last round against Sunderland. Expect him to get a start this midweek.

Tom Lees

Tom Lees (CB)

The experience of Lees would be needed at the heart of the Wednesday defence. The 27-year-old himself needs to up his game a bit.

Joost van Aken (LCB)

Luhukay has preferred Thorniley ahead of the Dutchman, however, a change could be the case against Wolves.

Liam Palmer (RWB)

The versatile Palmer has played as a right-back in a back-four system. He shouldn’t find any difficulty if he is slotted in a right-wing back position. It will only offer him more freedom.

George Boyd (LWB)

The former Burnley man hasn’t been a regular for the Owls, so he might get his chance to prove his worth.

Barry Bannan

Barry Bannan (CM)

The experience of Bannan might be required for Luhukay’s men, just to bind the team up throughout the game.

Alex Hunt (CM)

The teenager may just partner Bannan and learn his trade. He is still 18 and has shown a lot of promise.

Marco Matias (RW)

The Portuguese has been in and out of the side. He started the previous game and expect him to do the same for the midweek as well.

Steven Fletcher (ST)

Atdhe Nuhiu may get a rest and Fletcher could get his chance, as he slowly regains full match fitness by playing more games.

Adam Reach (LW)

Reach will offer creativity for the Owls from the left-hand side.
