Loris Karius makes another blunder as Besiktas lose 4-2 in Europa League

Loris Karius made a huge mistake for the opening goal of the game

Loris Karius produced another blunder in goal as Besiktas were beaten 4-2 in a shocking Europa League night.

Besiktas were beaten 4-2 by Slovan Bratislava but there were some other big results too. German giants Borussia Monchengladbach were handed a 4-0 defeat at home by Wolfsberg while Lazio lost to Cluj.

Karius has had his troubles since leaving Mainz and joining Liverpool, and the German was at fault for the Champions League final loss to Real Madrid a couple of years ago.

Liverpool banished memories of that loss last season as they beat Tottenham, and saw Alisson produce a great performance in between the sticks.

The Brazilian’s arrival in the summer saw Karius join Besiktas on a two-year loan deal, and the German has produced a few mistakes for the Turkish giants.

The latest one saw the 26-year-old rush out from his box to clear a ball when his defender was in control of the situation.

Karius missed his header and hit his own man as Andraz Sporar scored into the empty net.

Besiktas then came roaring back as they took a 2-1 lead but Sporar scored in the second half again.

It seemed like both teams would be ending the game with a point, however, the hosts scored two goals in the dying seconds to win the tie 4-2.

Karius struggling to keep the errors out

The Reds have had some goalkeeping problems this season with Alisson out for a while. Adrian has done a decent job but the 32-year-old doesn’t have the passing or kicking ability that the Brazilian possesses.

Karius would have been a decent choice for a return, however, he hasn’t been able to remove the regular mistakes in his game.

The German is a quality shot-stopper but the mistakes let him down. Adrian, for example, made a couple of howlers after joining in the summer, but the keeper was possibly Liverpool’s best player in their 2-0 loss to Napoli in midweek.
