Liverpool’s trophy hopes would gain strength if they recall in-form youngster from his loan spell at Derby County

Why Liverpool should recall Harry Wilson in January

Liverpool have made a good start and extended their unbeaten run in the league with a comprehensive 3-0 win at Watford on Saturday. The Reds are now on 33 points after 13 games, still two behind leaders and champions Manchester City.

There is a supposition that even if Jurgen Klopp’s men keep their pace up top, City are just too good and relentless that they will get away in this title race. For that reason, if they are serious about winning a silverware this year, it is vital from Liverpool’s viewpoint to concentrate on the FA Cup which starts in January, because winning the Champions League isn’t an easy task.

However, the Reds still require one or two players, especially in the advanced midfield department to challenge on all fronts. It is partly why they should recall Harry Wilson in the January window. Here are other reasons:

Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool’s quest for cup success

We generally see managers rotating their line-ups when there is FA Cup just because the competition is surrounded by Premier League and Champions League games.

If Klopp is adamant about making his team challenge in all competitions, then he probably needs one or two players in the attacking midfield department, as mentioned earlier.

They still do not have a direct replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri as a number 10. Recalling Harry Wilson would do two things – firstly, it would get them an in-form player who is striking goals and creating chances in abundance, secondly, they will have the strength in depth in the creative department.

The Welshman can play a major part in the FA Cup run and lead Liverpool to success. He is been in terrific touch for Derby County and the Reds should make use of the player in a good moment.

Concurrently, it would allow Klopp to rest the likes of Firmino or Shaqiri whenever needed and manage the squad in an astute way.

Given the kind of shopping Liverpool did in the summer window, they will be disappointed if they finish the season without a trophy.

Nabil Fekir was a close shave miss, hence, recalling a player who is yet not at the level of the Frenchman but is still moving in the right direction would be a great move. It would hurt Derby and Frank Lampard though.
