Liverpool vs Manchester United – 3 Players Who Stood Out In The Drab 0-0 Draw

Three Players With The Most Impressive Numbers In Liverpool vs Manchester United’s 0-0 Draw

Liverpool playing Manchester United at Anfield had sky-high expectations from both sets of fans – and rightfully so, considering the amount of rich history and rivalry between both clubs. Unfortunately, the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate, much to the disappointment of millions of fans worldwide. The match began with the unveiling of the Kenny Dalgish stand but as time progressed, the possible result became glaringly obvious.

The scoreline might be drab but the performances certainly weren’t. Of course, some excelled while others did not do well, but here are three players who stood out solely due to their numbers and work-rate on the field.

David De Gea

De Gea, the Flying Spaniard, was arguably the best player on the field. United’s attack was blunt but Liverpool were refusing to back down as they kept peppering the goal with several chances throughout the match. Quite impressively, De Gea was there to stop them all.

Considering the fact that Liverpool are touted as one of the sides with the best attack in the Premier League, De Gea certainly gave them a run for their money. He denied the efforts from the likes of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino quite effortlessly. His crucial saves truly helped United to a draw. If not for him, Liverpool could’ve easily walked away with a 2-0 victory.

Ander Herrera

Surprisingly, there is another Manchester United player in the list – Ander Herrera. The midfielder slotted in quite well and had a seemingly good understanding with Nemanja Matic. Herrera also absorbed the brunt of the Liverpool attack for as long as he was on the field. He faltered when it came to providing pace for counter-attacking runs but he completed 7 tackles within the first 20 minutes of the game – which is more than what the entire Liverpool team could do by that point.

After the break, Herrera’s power waned but there were some positives to take from his performance.

Mohamed Salah

Salah was a standout performer for Liverpool. His lack of finishing may have costed Liverpool the chance to win three points but he should be appreciated for his efforts.

The player was quick, incisive and seemed rarely troubled by the United defence. He was full of energy for as long as he was on the field, and if not for David De Gea at goal, Salah may have got himself a goal or two. However, the player did find it difficult to find the space initially, even though he does have the potential to be one of the best in the league. For that to happen, the Egyptian needs to work on his finishing skills.
