Liverpool vs Arsenal – 3 Things Wenger Must Do To Win At Anfield

Share

Arsenal travel back to that spot, they travel to Anfield on Sunday and the ghosts of their last visit have not been exterminated. Arsenal lost 5-1 the last time they played at Anfield in the Premier League and that was when the wheels fell off the Arsenal wagon last season. They had headed into that game against Liverpool in first place and then just could not recover from the mauling they received from Suarez and co.

Wenger

This season they go into the game not in the top 4 and while they have picked up their form over the past 2 couple of weeks, Liverpool aren’t faring any better either although they did win their midweek Capital One Cup tie against Bournemouth. The major factor is that Arsenal have a better team and are playing much better than Liverpool, although Liverpool could always spring a surprise at Anfield.

Here are 3 things Arsenal must do to defeat Liverpool.

1. Attack

It’s pretty simple really; Arsenal should go all guns blazing against a Liverpool team that just cannot keep clean sheets. Their defensive pairing of Toure and Lovren or Skrtel isn’t the best in the league and Brendan Rodgers decided to drop their number one goalkeeper Simon Mignolet because of his poor performances.

This is the perfect time for any club to face Liverpool who are not only without Suarez but the entire team looks flat. Holding back and giving them an opportunity to get into the game should, Arsenal should do to Liverpool what Liverpool did to them last season.

2. Play Gibbs and Debuchy as the left and right backs

Kieran Gibbs

The one threat that Arsenal need to nullify when they face Liverpool is that of Raheem Sterling who was exceptional against Bournemouth in midweek. Sterling was part of the destructive team that tore apart Arsenal last season and with his pace, he needs to be tracked and defended really well.

Playing Debuchy and Gibbs will give the Gunners that extra bit of pace to deal with not only Sterling but Liverpool’s other wide mean like Markovic and even Coutinho, pace will nullify pace and this would ensure that Arsenal do not get caught out all that often unlike last season.

3. Gamble with Walcott

Walcott

Theo Walcott could be fit enough to play the game against Liverpool and playing the pacey wide man should be something that Arsenal must do to defeat Liverpool. Of course it is a gamble to play Walcott after he has only just recovered from his injury but playing him with his pace, passing and finishing ability, Walcott would be a huge plus for Arsenal and pain for the Liverpool defence to deal with.
