Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto, Daniel Sturridge, Phillipe Coutinho, Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing, Raheem Sterling and possibly a couple of more, provided Luis Suarez leaves. These are some of the players who will be looking to fill up the possible four places in the Liverpool forward line, if Brendan Rodgers does not surprise us with a strange tactic.
Among all these talented players, who all will get some game time in the coming season, the one player who may lose out is Spanish youngster Suso. The 19-year old attacking midfielder has been a regular part of Liverpool and Spain’s U-21 setup and has also played around 20 times for the senior side last season. But next term, he faces some serious competition as Liverpool have strengthened their attacking lineup and are still in the market for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Suso is a left footed player who plays on the right wing (actually can play in a multitude of position), giving him an opportunity to cut inside and shoot. In the second half of the season, Suso lost his place to the improving Downing who impressed quite a many with his new found form. This season Iago Aspas has joined the club and it is fair to think that Sturridge will still be the lone forward. That will leave Aspas playing down the right, which will further hamper Suso’s chances.
On the left side of the field, Coutinho has been too good to even think of someone else. The young Brazilian has been the best thing that has happened to the Liverpool side in a long time and even Suso himself would not be thinking of replacing him.
Henderson’s performance has also improved a lot in the current season and even if Henderson is substituted out, the manager would never want Suso to start in the first team as a central option.
Under these circumstances, it is quite obvious that Suso will go down the pecking order and as a talented youngster, he needs to spend quality time on the field to utilise his potential to the max. A loan option to a club like Swansea or Fulham may help a bit but even there it cannot be guaranteed that he would play week in week out. Thus a loan move to championship side like Wigan or Reading would be most suitable for Suso right now and the Merseyside fans would hope that next term he comes out as a much improved player.
