Can scored a stunner to give Liverpool the lead.

Liverpool Player Ratings vs Burnley

Simon Mignolet – 6/10

Was beaten by Burnley’s only shot on target but was brave with his punching and glove-work in the second period when the visitors played high balls into the penalty area.

Nathaniel Clyne – 6/10

Could not keep up with Ashely Barnes for the Burnley goal but provided a good solid outlet on the right hand side of defence when he was picked out with cross-field passes.

Joel Matip – 6/10

Was put under pressure by the opposition at the start of the game, mishit a few clearances but progressed well as they game went on.

Ragnar Klavan – 7/10

Took a bit of time to settle as he too was caught surprised by the visitors’ pressure but grew more comfortable as the game went on. Made important tackles and challenges including one vital block when his side took the lead.

James Milner – 5/10

The Englishman worked hard on the left but wasn’t involved too much in his side’s play as he barely made any effect in attack or defence.

Emre Can – 7/10

A strong physical figure in front of the back-line. Won many aerial duels and tackles but also conceded a few unnecessary free-kicks. Scored the winner with a superbly placed shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 7/10

Hard-working and full of energy throughout the game. Got his team level, late in the first half. Was solid in the centre of the pitch despite other players around him having an off-day.

Adam Lallana – 6/10

Despite running around for the whole game, the midfielder was outmuscled and careless in possession. However, his pressing put Burnley under some pressure.

Philippe Coutinho – 5/10

It just wasn’t happening for the Brazilian. Was sloppy in possession and his dribbles weren’t on spot. Did not offer much and was replaced by Woodburn in the second period.

Sadio Mane – 6/10

Was the liveliest Liverpool player in the first half but was lacking any sort of final ball. Was losing control of the ball a bit too often as his first touch became poorer as the game progressed.

Divock Origi – 6/10

Worked hard because of the lack of service that was provided upfront and managed to cross for Wijnaldum’s opener, overall had a decent game.

Substitutes:

Lucas Leiva – 6/10

Came on for Origi and strengthened the back-line as he helped Liverpool see out the final 10 minutes.

Ben Woodburn – 6/10

Wasn’t afraid to get involved and was seemingly bright as he came on for Coutinho. However, he could not make much of an impact.
