Liverpool Player Ratings Against Burnley – Coutinho And Sterling Steal The Show Once Again

Jingle bells for Liverpool! Finally, the Reds have rediscovered their winning ways thanks to a 1-0 victory against Burnley at Turf Moor and with this Liverpool embark on to their winning ways again. The Reds continued their run of dominance last night too, and at no point of the game did they seem to go off beat, thus, churning out a deserving victory to outclass Burnley without much backbreaking work.

Burnley undoubtedly provided for a good counter back, however, Liverpool always had an edge over them, particularly in the second half. With the game coming to draws at 0-1, Rodgers would seem free and easy, as his team finally succeeded to hit the right chords amidst injury concerns. Here is our take on the performance of the Reds’ at Boxing Day:

Brad Jones (5.5/10): The Australian was going good at the onset of the game. However, had a rather short lived appearance between the posts, until he was called off in the 16^th minute after succumbing to an injury.

Kolo Toure (6/10): The big guy had a rather ordinary day at the field. He was hardly troubled by Burnley’s charge down the girdle. However, owing to a tactical alteration, he was substituted by Emre Can post half time.

Martin Skrtel (7/10): The Slovak has been rather impressive last night. He put up a good show of defence, nevertheless, the experienced center back was barely charged by the Burnley attack.

Mamadou Sakho (6.5/10): The Frenchman seemed to gel in pretty well with the three-at-the-back order. He was undoubtedly good, yet, he was hardly put to test.

Philippe Coutinho (8/10): Just one word for the Brazilian-Outstanding. He has been superb with the ball. His tackles were sublime and maneuvers clean. Particularly his pass over to Sterling, was perhaps the best piece of play in the low profile outing.

Steven Gerrard (7.5/10): The skipper was up to the snuff in the middle of the park. He made a splendiferous pass to Lambert, which was ultimately flagged off as an offside. Overall, a sensible performance by the Englishman.

Adam Lallana (7/10): Lallana has stood up for the Reds in a number of occasions and last night was no exception. The young man is turning out to be more and more dynamic with every passing fixture. Overall, solid throughout the game.

Jordan Henderson (6/10): Featured on a wider string against the Clarets. Although, seemed to struggle at certain occasions, nonetheless, he carried out his job brilliantly.

Lucas Leiva (6.5/10): Leiva seemed to have a good grip of the game at the center of the park. He was tidy with the ball and countered the Burnley attack with poise. All in all, impressive performance by the Brazilian.

Raheem Sterling (8.5/10): Another game changer by the young Englishman. Starting from the middle, he rounded Tom Heaton and shot a gorgeous strike on goal in early hours of the second half, thus, sealing the game in favour of his team. Simply class apart! A treat to watch!

Substitutes:

Simon Mignolet (6/10): Substituted Jones in the early stages of the game. He was rather decent and nothing exceptional during his spell between the bars. The Belgian looked hesitant at times, nonetheless, he managed to hold back Burnley from scoring any goals.

Emre Can (7/10): Came down in the second half to execute Rodgers’ match strategy. Played his part really well, as he tackled the Clarets with his skillfulness.

Rickie Lambert (5/10): Brought in at the 73^rd minute to substitute Coutinho. Missed an opportunity to score on being chopped off as offside. Otherwise, good with the ball.
