Liverpool Opinion: Why This German Speedster Could Be The Perfect Replacement For Raheem Sterling

Share

The light at the end of the tunnel is almost here for Raheem Sterling, his latest indiscretion would and should signal the end of his Liverpool career after he called in sick twice and even stated that he does not want to go on tour with the Reds.

Manchester City are getting their cheque books ready as they prepare to launch another bid for the Liverpool winger, this time it should be enough to get their man. This would also mean that Liverpool would have an excess £50 million in their transfer kitty and they should be spending the majority of that to enhance their squad.

They would need someone who is world-class quality, and an upgrade on Sterling. Not many players fall into that category, but we have one such player in our minds who could step up for Liverpool and make the team better.

Almost a World Cup winner

Last year, leading up to the World Cup, Marco Reus was just one of the stars from a German team expected to do well but injury got the better of him and he missed out on the Finals. He came back stronger for Dortmund but did have a few more injury issues; however he still is one of the best wingers out there.

Reus can play on either wing or as a lone striker, his versatility does not end there and the German can play as an attacking midfielder as well. This is just the kind of ability that Rodgers would want in a player, Reus’ ability to perform from just about anywhere on the pitch is one of his key assets.

Speaking of assets, his speed, technique and dribbling ability makes him a standout player in the Dortmund line-up. Reus also has a great shot in him and has regularly been in the goals as well as assisted his teammates.

Nabbing Reus from Dortmund might be a bit of a problem, especially since his loyalty to Dortmund can never be questioned and with Jurgen Klopp leaving, he might be staying around a season or two just to ensure nothing happens to his club. Reus though would be a great addition to the Liverpool team; he genuinely is a class player who can transform any team around and still relatively young.

The German might consider moving to an ambitious project such as Liverpool’s, one factor that could swing the deal in Liverpool’s favour is that Klopp is available as a manager should Rodgers’ season not go as planned.

Reus could be looking for a new challenge or to test himself, this could be the perfect time for Liverpool to make a bid on the Bundesliga player and that would certainly be icing on the cake, if Liverpool sign him.
