Liverpool forward Xherdan Shaqiri has emerged as a transfer target for Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco, as stated by The Sun.
The report also states that the Reds are demanding a fee around £33m for the swiss superstar.
Shaqiri made his switch to Anfield from Stoke City last summer and had quite a decent season. While it’s understandable that he couldn’t beat the likes of talisman Mohamed Salah, Shaqiri made full use of the limited opportunities.
To be precise, he racked up 6 goals and 5 assists in all competition, a good return for a player who started on the bench for around 20 occasions.
The 27-year-old’s significance came into light when he stepped up against Barcelona in a dramatic 4-0 win, providing a brilliant assist to Wijnaldum’s goal. He also helped the Reds secure a narrow win over Newcastle with another valuable assist, the same game when Salah left the field injured.
That being said, Jurgen Klopp should hold on to Shaqiri, as he would be of greater use in the upcoming season.
Besides playing as a right-winger, the former Potters star is also synonymous with the attacking midfield role – the position that the Reds currently lack resources in.
Klopp hasn’t sorted out the midfield woes that he experienced in the previous season and instead, he decided to stick with the same squad after winning the prestigious UCL title.
The former Dortmund manager can deploy Shaqiri in the hole if needed, as he boasts good playmaking skills.

Breaking down the bench strength, the Reds don’t have enough depth in their attack and that is why keeping the Swiss ace is a sensible thing.
Shaqiri holds enormous experience, as he has played for Europe’s top clubs. Amidst the lack of playing time, the former Inter Milan man looked calm and delivered with his limited opportunities.
Klopp should provide him with enough game time this season on a rotational basis. Most importantly, he should not pay heed to the transfer talks. Judging him by his performances after just one season doesn’t sound good at all.
