Why Liverpool loaning out Herbie Kane to Rangers would be ideal for all parties

According to Football Scotland, Rangers have been rebuffed in their approach to sign Liverpool youngster Herbie Kane on loan for the rest of the season, with the report suggesting that the Reds are not willing to send the 20-year-old out on loan.

Kane, who is held in high regard by the youth coaches at Anfield, has featured regularly for Liverpool’s U-23 side in Premier League 2 but he was omitted from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States earlier in the summer.

The 20-year-old impressed with his stellar run of form at Doncaster Rovers in League One last season, registering 7 goals and 10 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions to propel his club to a 6th-place finish in the third-tier.

Despite Doncaster eventually losing out to Charlton Athletic in the promotion playoffs, Kane’s goalscoring ability from the midfield earned him rave reviews from fans and scouts alike.

And Liverpool, who are also apparently impressed with the player’s development, want to keep him in their youth ranks in order to monitor his growth closely.

Meanwhile, Rangers still seem to be on the lookout for more options in the market even after making a host of new signings earlier in the summer.

Filip Helander, Joe Aribo, Greg Stewart, Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie, George Edmundson and Brandon Barker have all come through the door at Ibrox thus far and another arrival might just be on the cards before Monday’s deadline.

Gerrard has used his Anfield connections to good effect since taking over at the helm of affairs at Rangers last year, with the former Liverpool star raiding his former club for quality academy talents like Ryan Kent, Ovie Ejaria and Sheyi Ojo.

And Kane is apparently on his wishlist as well, although Gerrard would have to rely on another favour from his former club to complete a deal for the 20-year-old midfielder before Monday. However, it remains to be seen whether the Gers make a second attempt to sign the starlet.

To put things into perspective, Liverpool’s decision to turn down a loan move for Herbie Kane to Ibrox doesn’t look justified, given that the 20-year-old is still not ready to play a significant role in the club’s senior side in the Premier League.

Agreed, the youngster made eyeballs turn in the third-tier last season but his exploits at Doncaster hardly guarantee that he would be able to complete a massive jump up to the senior ranks at Anfield so early in his career.

Plus, taking into account the level of competition for places and the depth in Jurgen Klopp’s squad, it is hard to see how Kane would get a look in from the manager after being left out of the pre-season tours.

Ideally, the next big step in Kane’s development would be a loan spell in the Championship, whilst the prospect of furthering his development north of the border under the watchful eyes of Gerrard also looks like a good deal for all parties involved.

Kane is at a stage in his career where he needs regular exposure at the senior level and a move to Rangers could definitely work wonders for him in terms of maturing as a player and taking his game to the next level.

Gerrard, with his technical know-how of the game and patient handling of youngsters, is more than capable of moulding him into a future first-team player at Anfield and Liverpool should not hesitate to put their trust in the club-legend, especially after he brought the best out of Ryan Kent last season.

Moreover, there is European football on offer at Ibrox this season after the Gers beat Legia Warsaw in the playoffs to make it through to the group stages of the Europa League. Hence, a move to Rangers would allow Kane to test his credentials against some of the big guns in Europe.

The starlet was one of the contenders for the European Golden Boy award last summer and Gerrard might prove to be the ideal man to unlock his potential.

Keeping all the aforementioned factors in mind, Liverpool should alter their stance and loan Herbie Kane out to Rangers, as Gerrard’s influence on the 20-year-old’s development would be a massive boon to the Reds in the years to come.
