Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has been linked over a summer exit, with AC Milan turning out to be his potential suitors.
Earlier, a report from Mirror stated that Jurgen Klopp is steadfast on keeping the Croatian defender unless the Serie A outfit meets a fee worth £25million.
While Lovren holds a contract that spans for two more years at Anfield, Klopp should let him off the hook sooner rather than later. Here is why.
Lovren has been serving the Reds for a long time since his arrival from Southampton in 2015.
Over the course, the 30-year-old has played more than 150 matches and was an integral part of the Reds team that ended as UCL runners-up in 2018.
Later, he also enjoyed a great international stint, providing a helping hand to Croatia as they ended up as the runners up in the FIFA World Cup, during which he also picked up a pelvic injury.
The 2018/19 campaign turned out to be an injury-riddled one for the ex-Lyon star and that’s when the Reds witnessed the rise of Joel Matip.
The 28-year-old gradually pushed Lovren down the ranks and formed a great faction with Virgil van Dijk. The Cameroonian later ingrained himself as a starter and was pivotal for the Reds in clinching the UCL title as well finishing second in the Premier League table.
Talking about the bench strength, the Reds have got two precious talents namely Joe Gomez and Sepp van den Berg, their new acquisition, built for the club’s long-term future. Meanwhile, both have shown enough promise in the pre-season friendlies.

That being said, Lovren looks no more a viable addition to the Merseyside club. His departure would have no consequences either.
The Reds were completely frugal in the recently ended transfer window, given that they have a sturdy line-up at their disposal.
Going forward, the former Dortmund manager can’t opt for a lopsided squad. Bearing all this in mind, it wouldn’t make any sense for the Reds to hold on to Lovren.
