Liverpool have handed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a new contract, which is more good news for the Reds as it comes off the back of new contracts 13 months back for the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Jurgen Klopp is one of the best managers in the world and made his name at Borussia Dortmund but the one problem he had during his time at the German club was that he couldn’t hold onto his best players, who would end up moving elsewhere but he’s finally at a club where he can continue building his side.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was out for most of last season, having suffered a long-term injury the season before after making a fantastic start to his Liverpool career and will be hoping he can show signs of the form prior to the injury.
He started the games against Southampton and Chelsea and did reasonably but Liverpool as a whole have been leggy and should perform better over time.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s a fantastic asset to have in any side because of his versatility. His preferred position is in central midfield and he showed how devastating he can be in some of the games against Manchester City in the 2017/18 season and has done the same for the England national side.
With James Milner getting on a little, who is the other versatile player in the side, it’s time that Oxlade-Chamberlain filled his boots.
During his time at Arsenal, he played a lot of games on the wings and as wing-back and Liverpool will definitely need him to fill those positions as well because they tend to have a settled group of players in most positions, especially with their back-five and front-three.
Oxlade-Chamberlain can get from box-to-box very quickly and fits in perfectly with Jurgen Klopp’s counter-pressing system because he’s capable of doing his defensive work, winning the ball in dangerous areas and helping in the quick transitions that Liverpool are known for.

Conclusion
Liverpool have a very workman-like midfield and usually get their creativity from the front-three and the full-backs but have often struggled to break down teams who sit in a low block.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is the kind of player who can help break such sides. This is a fantastic piece of business for Liverpool and should secure their long-term future.
