The signing of the Spaniard to provide competition for Mignolet is clearly a statement of intent by the management at Melwood. A goalkeeper at ease with the ball at his feet, Valdes will also provide Rodgers the option of playing a sweeper-keeper in his first team. A comparatively much more vocal keeper than Mignolet, Valdes is a leader from the back. Above all, Liverpool will have at their hands a goalkeeper with top-notch ability and a lot of ambition.
