If there is anything that the signing of Victor Valdes will offer in plenty, it is top quality competition for a currently untroubled Simon Mignolet. The Belgian is an excellent shot-stopper who often falls prey to lapses in concentration and the occasional blooper. Still leaving most of the Anfield faithful’s opinion divided, Mignolet has been found wanting on more occasions than one. The signing of Victor Valdes will make sure that the Belgian is on his ties all season. With his place under threat constantly, it will spur the former Sunderland keeper on to his best form. The signings the Reds made this window has made sure that there is plenty of competition throughout the squad and the signing of Valdes will make sure there is competition even for the spot of the goalkeeper.
