Leicester’s promising young English star joining Pep’s Man City would be nothing but a huge blunder – agreed?

Why Ben Chilwell shouldn’t join Manchester City right now

When Benjamin Mendy joined Manchester City for £52million, many would have thought that Pep Guardiola was crazy. The 24-year-old played his first game in the Premier League and took everyone by storm, thanks to a splendid cocktail of agility, stamina and strength.

It was only then that everyone realised what Guardiola had brought in but things haven’t been the same since.

The former Monaco star has been plagued with injuries, showing just a few glimpses of his obvious talent. When he started this season very well, producing 5 assists in his opening six appearances, it was a bright spot in Manchester City’s attack. However, the 24-year-old eventually got injured again, and that has left the Cityzens short-handed at the back.

That’s exactly why ESPN has revealed that Manchester City are set to step up their chase for Leicester City star Ben Chilwell. The 22-year-old has been among the Foxes’ best players this season and has made the left-back slot his very own despite only making his debut last season.

With Christian Fuchs getting older, Chilwell has taken over the left-back slot permanently this season and hasn’t looked back.

The 22-year-old has been at his very best, marauding up and down the left flank but he also shows great positional sense defensively. While his tackling and aggression need to improve, the England international is easily one of for the future and already has five caps to his name for his country.

But despite all that, a move to Manchester City would do immense harm to his career. At the moment, the Cityzens need a back-up left back, having used Fabian Delph and Danilo as make-shift options, but neither is a permanent choice.

Ben Chilwell, on the other hand, would slot straight into Guardiola’s side but only until Benjamin Mendy is fit. Once the 24-year-old Frenchman returns to action, Chilwell’s main job will be bench-warming, which isn’t ideal for someone as talented as the young Englishman.

However, if Pep Guardiola does guarantee that Chilwell will get ample amount of game-time, the move would make sense. But until then, it’s in the 22-year-old’s best interest to stay at the King Power Stadium and continue growing.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
