Leicester City opinion: Should the Foxes make a move for Reece James?

Leicester City have finally started doing what they should have the moment after they won the Premier League title, forming an identity. Their title was sensational but at the same time, it was probably only a one-off thing.

Time and the style of football will play a part in shaping up the club but it’s only under Ranieri that the Foxes were worthy of a title. Both Craig Shakespeare and Claude Puel struggled to do much with the squad they inherited.

Shakespeare simply continued what Ranieri did with varying ranges of success, while Puel tried to play more defensive football. But eventually, even the former Southampton boss was sacked and his replacement is Brendan Rodgers.

In the short time that the former Liverpool boss has been in charge, he’s done more than either of the two managers did before him.

He’s taken the young players at Leicester and transformed them into beasts reaching their potential, even helping Jamie Vardy turn back the time brilliantly. It was rather nice to watch and Rodgers’ style of play and tactical nuance has been showcased.

The best example would be the Manchester City clash, with it taking a rather sensational effort from Vincent Kompany to seal the deal. But Rodgers cannot settle there and the club needs reinforcements to be able to move forward in the Premier League.

One area that really needs improvement is full-back, as they have no alternatives for either Ben Chilwell or Ricardo Pereira. Both Chilwell and Pereira are first-team stars but barring that, there is no back-up.

Christian Fuchs is 33 years old, while Danny Simpson will be leaving the club in a few months.

This leaves Leicester in trouble and it’s why a move for Reece James makes a lot of sense. The Daily Mail has reported that the Foxes are keen on a move for the young full-back.

Failing to make the Chelsea first-team, the 19-year-old left on loan and has really grown into his position. He finished his loan spell at Wigan Athletic, managing to play in all but two games.

For a club like Leicester, James’ pace and strength will be of great use both offensively and defensively. But he has to improve on the former and that should happen with regular game time. However, it’s the defensive side that a full-back needs to have and James has it in spades.

Conclusion

The more important thing to notice is the fact that Reece James has evolved over the course of the season. He’s slowly improved at an incredible rate and with time, he’ll become even better, especially under someone like Brendan Rodgers

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
