Premier League Left Footed XI

Left footed players are always considered to be prized assets as they give immense balance to the team when they play. We have always been entertained by some of the best left-footers in the world, be it Ryan Giggs who is notably the best to have played in the league or the recent superstar Gareth Bale. Left-footers are rare, tough to read and are usually pretty successful.  In this list, we look at a team full of left-footers in their respective positions.

Goalkeeper:

Thibaut Courtois (Chelsea)

The young Chelsea keeper is seen as one of the best in the world and at age 22 he has a long, long way to go in his career. He is left footed, same as his world class deputy Petr Cech and is undoubtedly the best left footed keeper in the league!

Defenders:

Alberto Moreno (Liverpool)

You cannot argue over the quality of his left foot. The lad has got amazing power in his shooting, and with his explosive pace and stamina, he becomes the perfect fullback for the Premier League. Liverpool have really got their hands on a player with great potential and they would love to see him bloom into one of the top players in the world.

Defence: Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham Hotspurs)

The Belgian is a powerful defender capable of operating as a centre back which is his natural position, as well as a left back, where he can function because of his good running ability and a powerful left foot which he sometimes likes to use to shoot from distance.

Defence: Eliaquim Mangala (Manchester City)

The new beast the Citizens have signed is a left footer and is capable of playing both central defence and left back like Vertonghen. He has great pace for a central defender and with the strength and stamina, he can bully the forwards and looks like a perfect fit for the Premier League.

Defence: Leighton Baines (Everton)

He is one of the most prolific left backs in the Premier League and he has his famous left foot which he uses for his crosses and free kicks. He is good at shooting from distance as well, and is a key offensive player for Everton.

Midfielders:

Midfield: Nemanja Matic (Chelsea)

He is apparently the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League currently. Matic is naturally a left footed player and offers a lot of balance to Chelsea’s midfield. His ability to hold possession and participate in playmaking is extremely important to Jose Mourinho’s cause. And then, he also wins possession regularly!

Midfield: Angel Di Maria (Manchester United)

Di Maria has taken the league by storm and is one of the most high profile and consistent players in English football this season. The former Real Madrid man is naturally left footed and has proved to be a great addition to Manchester United. As of now, he looks worth the amount the English giants shelled out for his services.

Midfield: Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)

Ozil is undergoing a rough patch in his illustrious career so far. He is a very classy player who established himself as a superstar with his vision and passing. He is naturally left footed and is one of Arsenal’s key players, whom Wenger would want to return to full fitness as soon as possible. Ozil’s form has been rather indifferent and he would need to be inspired to jump back to his best.

Midfield: Juan Mata (Manchester United)

The former Chelsea maestro made a positive impact last season after joining United. He has been a regular goalscorer for the Red Devils. But he hasn’t been able to dominate matches the way he used to do in Chelsea two seasons ago. He is still a very technically gifted player and a proven EPL performer who is just struggling a bit with new tactics. He is also one of the best left-footers in the league.

Attackers:

Forward: Robin van Persie (Manchester United)

Another Man Utd player and this time it is The Flying Dutchman! Robin van Persie is one of the best strikers in the world and his left foot is extremely lethal, even from long distances. He is comfortable on the right foot as well, but he’s naturally a left footed footballer who is also a set-piece taker for the club.

Forward: Lukas Podolski (Arsenal)

Again, you cannot question the ability in his left foot. He may be struggling to get a regular spot in the Arsenal starting eleven as he’s a rather non-technical inside left forward, but the German’s left foot is by far the best in the list. He is a deadly finisher when he’s on his left side. He is extremely one footed, and all his might is concentrated on his left foot. When he shoots, it stays struck.
