According to a report from The Shields Gazette, Leeds United are interested in signing Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow if they get rid of Kiko Casilla this summer.
The former Real Madrid star made his switch to Elland Road last summer but failed to create any impact despite pushing Bailey Peacock-Farrell down the ranks.
The report also states that the Whites have made Magpies keeper Darlow as a priority after witnessing a possible move fall through earlier this January (h/t The Shields Gazette). Darlow is tied with the Magpies until the end of the next season.
The 28-year-old fell down has been on the fringes at St. James’ Park for the past two seasons and failed to beat the likes of Martin Dubravka in 2018/19 campaign.
Darlow’s most active spell was during the 2016/17 season, where he kept 13 clean sheets and gave a helping hand to the Magpies in achieving promotion. Since then, the former Nottingham Forest man has made only 13 appearances.
Elsewhere at Elland Road, Casilla largely failed to exceed his mounting expectations and also hindered the growth of a budding Peacock-Farrell, who was impressive during his recent outings with the Northern Irish national team.
Breaking down the previous season’s stats, Peacock-Farrell maintained 10 clean sheets in 28 matches, which was much impressive than Casilla’s six clean sheets in 19 appearances.
Marcelo Bielsa, who would be determined to make a statement in the upcoming season, should prioritize the Irish goalkeeper and look out for a strong back-up option.
Darlow can be a great addition and the Englishman can breathe new life in his career at Elland Road.

And the Magpies outcast can also become the No.1 for the Whites should he be able to change the Argentine manager’s mind by impressing him.
The Whites must prioritise a move for the back-up keeper if they are able to get rid of Casilla. In such a case, they can benefit from Darlow, who has bags of experience in his locker.
