Two Best Transfers Leeds United Have Completed In Recent Times

Leeds United let go of their promotion chances after they failed to qualify for the playoff stages of the EFL Championship, following a series of poor results in recent weeks.

Garry Monk’s men were primed for a finish in the top six places for long parts of the season, but some poor displays in the final stages of the season led to them dropping out of the playoff spots and as a result, will have to try and mount a challenge for promotion once again next season.

If the Whites are to do better next campaign, Monk will need to bring in some new faces in the upcoming transfer window, who would hit the ground running and make an impact immediately after arrival. Ahead of the summer window, we look at two of the best transfers made by Leeds in recent years:

Chris Wood

The 25-year old joined Leeds in the summer of 2015 for a fee reported to be in the range of £3million, which made him the most expensive Leeds player since Nick Barmby in 2002.

After years of struggles with his previous clubs in England, Wood looked like he had found his home at the Elland Road and finished his first season strongly with 13 goals from 37 games. But the New Zealand international has come into his own in the ongoing campaign. Wood, this season, has scored 29 goals from 47 games across all competitions – 26 of which have come in the EFL Championship, making him the leading goalscorer in the competition.

In his two years at the club, Wood has become a pivotal member of the team and Leeds should do everything in their powers to keep him for next season, to mount another bid for promotion.

Pontus Jansson

The 26-year old defender is in his first spell with the Whites but has made such a great impact on his arrival that he has to be considered one of their top signings in recent past.

Jansson joined Leeds on loan from Italian club Torino and the Swedish international has established himself as one of the most important players for Monk in his first year in England and has been one of the best centre-halves in the division. With 36 games, 3 goals and 3 assists, and plenty of match-winning performances at the back, Jansson has become a fan favourite at Elland Road.

The Swedish international was named in the EFL Team of the Season and also made it to the Sky Bet Championship Team of the Season for his excellent displays. If Leeds manage to keep him beyond this season, more accolades will surely follow.
