According to the Spanish version of Yahoo Sports, Championship side Derby County have been linked with Chelsea attacking midfielder/winger Lucas Piazon. The Brazilian’s contract at Stamford Bridge is set to run out at the end of this season, and there have been no updates on whether he will sign a new deal.
The Rams already have two Chelsea youngsters in their squad, with Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori playing on loan from the London club. Piazon signed for the Blues back in 2012, but he hasn’t been able to break into the first-team under any manager.
Instead, the 24-year-old was offloaded on loan until the end of last season. He played for Fulham as a loanee for the last two Championship seasons and impressed.
However, the versatile forward is yet to taste first-team football under Maurizio Sarri. Hence, it will make sense for the 2017 Premier League champions to offload the player sooner than later.
And Derby County should do everything to land the Brazilian. Here’s why:
Predominantly a left winger, Piazon can operate as an attacking midfielder on the wings without trouble. He has got abundant abilities at his disposal. The Brazilian can dribble past defenders, can pick out a telling pass and is never shy of shooting whenever space opens up.
Furthermore, he possesses the experience of playing in the Championship, as he was a part of the Fulham team that got promoted to the Premier League last season. The 24-year-old scored five goals and supplied four assists in 22 league appearances for the Cottagers last season.
Derby County have been in decent form under Frank Lampard, however, it seems like they need more if promotion is to be achieved this year. For that to happen, they probably need another goal-scoring winger/attacking midfielder in their squad. And Piazon could be that man for the Rams.
Having experienced a successful promotion push last season, it would be ideal for the club if the Brazilian arrives and helps the team in a big way. He can be a difference-maker the team and the manager need right now, someone who can provide that spark when the going is tough.
From the 24-year-old’s viewpoint, there is no point in staying at Chelsea where he is getting game time. In any case, his contract is running out at the end of this season, and it’s high time he moves elsewhere on a permanent deal.
