Reigning Premier League champions Chelsea may have not had the best start to their pre-season tour, but manager Jose Mourinho has not lost any faith in himself or his side’s ability. The Blues were beaten 4-2 by New York Red Bulls on Wednesday night in the Big Apple, as the Chelsea back-line was quite poor right through the game.
After the game, the Portuguese boss was asked about the performance and the Special One stated that he is still the “manager of the best team in England”. Now that’s how you motivate your team before the season kicks off!
Well, after winning the first two pre-season matches 1-0 against a Thai All-Stars XI and Sydney FC, the west London side looked out of sorts in this one.
Further, all four of the Red Bulls’ goals were due to a lapse in the Chelsea defence and John Terry was responsible for some of the errors too.
A fan criticized Terry for looking “slow”, while supporters talked about Asmir Begovic’s performance, after the newly arrived keeper let in four goals in his debut game. Some of them went to the extend of criticizing last year’s PFA Winner Eden Hazard and goal machine Diego Costa for carrying some of their holiday weight.
