How Should Liverpool Line-up This Season? Belgians From The Front To The Back

Liverpool Blog

Liverpool completed their 7th signing of the summer after the acquisition of Benteke from Aston Villa. While the club have lost Raheem Sterling, they seem to be going form strength to strength, well at least in the personnel department. Liverpool now have a huge number of players who are fighting for more or less similar positions.

They have the likes of Balotelli, Sturridge, Origi, Ings, Lambert and Borini fighting for what could be just one striker role and they also have a ton of players fighting it out for a midfield slot. So we play Liverpool manager and try to find out which formation would be best for them and who should be starting for the club.

The goalkeeping position is fixed with Liverpool’s player of last season, Simon Mignolet setting up shop. There is no one who can challenge him for the role as of now and he starts the team. The goalkeeper is supported by the back four, a typical back four with the full-backs bombing forward. While Joe Gomez has impressed this season or at least this preseason, it still would be Moreno playing as the left-back.

Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho should be the first choice centre-backs but Dejan Lovren could have a word to say about that. New boy Nathaniel Clyne should be an automatic choice as the Liverpool right-back, especially since Glen Johnson left the club.

The midfield would have the Captain, Jordan Henderson holding the fort with new signing James Milner. Both players are known to have a great work ethic and can help out the attack and defence as and when needed. This would give Liverpool a lot of stability and balance, especially when the full-backs go ahead to attack

Now coming to the main part of the problem, Liverpool have so many players it is going to be hard to fit them all in. Christian Benteke was not signed to stay on the bench and should spearhead the Liverpool attack while Daniel Sturridge when fit, should play as either on the left or right of Benteke and cut in with the ball like he did when he played with Luis Suarez.

Philippe Coutinho might have to change his role in the team by playing a wider role; this has to be done to accommodate Roberto Firmino, another expensive signing from this season. We still have not been able to fit in players like Lallana, Markovic, Origi and Ings. Only time will tell how this goes, but Liverpool have a good chance of doing well this season.
