Sheffield United Player Ratings vs Brentford – Here’s how the Blades fared

Sheffield United dug deep to beat Brentford 3-2 in a thrilling game away at Griffin Park to make steadfast progress up the Championship table. Neal Maupay opened the scoring for the home side but Ezri Konsa netted an own goal to let the visitors back in.

Oliver Norwood put United ahead in the 15th minute, only to see his teammate John Fleck score an own goal in the 65th minute to equalise for the hosts.

Ultimately, it was Leon Clarke who netted the winning goal for Chris Wilder’s men 18 minutes from time. This win lifts the Blades up to fourth position in the table, just three points behind leaders Norwich City.

Here’s how they performed in this game:

Sheffield United Player Ratings

Dean Henderson (7)

Despite conceding two goals, neither of which was savable, Henderson had a good game in goal. He made some good saves.

Kieron Freeman (7)

Freeman had a few nervy moments but apart from that, he was solid. His quick thinking helped set up United’s winner.

Chris Basham (7)

A typical Basham performance where he was solid defensively and helped the team close out the game after taking the decisive lead.

John Egan

John Egan (8)

Other than his goal, Maupay had no way past a brick wall named John Egan. The latter was a colossus at the back.

Jack O’Connell (7.5)

A very good performance from the defender who won his aerial duels and remained secure at the back.

Enda Stevens (7)

Had some nice touches throughout the game and linked up well with O’Connell and John Fleck.

John Fleck (7)

His unfortunate own goal aside, Fleck had a very good game. He really put in a shift for the team throughout.

Oliver Norwood

Oliver Norwood (8.5)

Captain on the day, assisted the first goal and scored the team’s second. Passed the ball with intent and did the dirty part too.

John Lundstram (7)

A surprise inclusion in the side but he did well. He could have scored an equaliser early on, only to see his effort hit the bar.

Conor Washington

Conor Washington (8)

Ran himself to the ground for the team. Set up Leon Clarke’s winner and remained committed to the cause throughout the game.

David McGoldrick (6)

Had a couple of half-chances blocked and he was guilty of giving the ball away a few times.

Substitutes

Leon Clarke (Subbed on after 60 mins) (7)

Came on for McGoldrick and scored the winner after some good work from Washington.

Paul Coutts (Subbed on after 67 mins) (7)

Came on to bring calmness and a sense of security to the team.
