Derby County’s Frank Lampard and Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United – the two new Championship bosses, go head to head at Pride Park on Saturday, with both men looking to add to last weekend’s victories over Reading and Stoke City respectively.
Tom Lawrence’s stoppage-time header gave Frank Lampard his first managerial win in a 2-1 victory over Reading in the Championship curtain-raiser.
Lampard will hope his team gets a positive result against Leeds on Saturday in what is expected to be a mouthwatering clash at Pride Park.
Lampard will have a full-strength squad to pick his starting XI on Saturday, barring Marcus Olsson, who is currently out injured. Chris Martin continued to build his fitness by playing against Sheffield Wednesday and Jack Marriott, one of manager Frank Lampard’s new signings, scored in a 2-1 victory in an under-23 friendly played behind closed doors on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the game against Leeds could be too early for new signings Martyn Waghorn, Scott Malone and Fikayo Tomori.
Carson has been one of Derby’s most consistent players ever since he arrived and there’s no reason why he should not start against Leeds.
Andre Wisdom will be expected to carry on at right-back for the Leeds game.
Richard Keogh will have to be on top form to keep the Leeds attackers at bay.
The same applies for the skipper Curtis Davies, who was simply excellent last season.
Max Lowe is a promising young left-back who can excel at the highest level, provided he keeps the injuries away.
Starting at the base of midfield should be Joe Ledley. The Welshman possesses a terrific engine, works equally hard in defence as well as in the attack, and compensates for his lack of pace with his understanding of the game.
Needs to improve to get back to his best but on his day, Bryson is one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the division.
Mount equalised against Reading and will be hoping to continue his good form as the season progresses.
Lawrence scored a sensational winner in the injury time against Reading that gave Lampard a winning start on his managerial debut. The Wales international has proved himself to be a good player in the Championship and is a definite starter against Leeds.
Wilson is regarded as one of the best young players owned by Liverpool. He is highly-rated at Anfield and after a fine spell on loan at Hull last season, Wilson is expected to bring creativity and dynamism to Derby’s attack this term.
David Nugent is expected to lead the Rams’ attack at the weekend. The experienced forward has found the back of the net regularly and for an anticipated high-intensity clash, it would be a safe bet to go with Nugent rather than throwing Jack Marriott in.
