Predicted Manchester City line-up to face Leicester City in League Cup

Manchester City will be hoping to keep defend their EFL Cup title when they face Leicester City in the quarter-finals at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night. Pep Guardiola’s men responded to the Chelsea defeat by beating Hoffenheim and Everton.

They will now be looking to successfully defend their EFL cup crown which they won last season. However, Leicester won’t be easy opponents at the King Power. It is always hard to predict the outcome of a knockout cup tie and that remains to be the case for this game as well. An intriguing battle is on the cards.

Team News

Benjamin Mendy is out injured until the end of February. David Silva’s thigh injury will keep him out for the rest of this month, and probably the first week of next month. Danilo is also out injured for the long term.

Probable Manchester City XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Manager: Pep Guardiola

Ederson (GK)

With City having no real quality backup due to Claudio Bravo’s injury, we may see Ederson in goal in this quarter-final tie.

John Stones

John Stones (RB)

Kyle Walker could get a rest, resulting in Stones starting at right-back. The latter has done that a few times this season.

Vincent Kompany (CB)

The club captain has played in the cup games this season. Expect him to be the leader of the back-line on Tuesday.

Nicolas Otamendi (CB)

The Argentine is expected to start ahead of Aymeric Laporte, who starts every league game for the Cityzens.

Oleksandr Zinchenko (LB)

The young Ukrainian should start at left-back with Mendy out and Fabian Delph playing there in the league games.

Ilkay Gundogan

Ilkay Gundogan (CDM)

The German could start as a defensive midfielder with Fernandinho deserving a rest for this week.

Phil Foden (LCM)

Foden has been impressive whenever he has started games. He is expected to get another chance to impress the boss.

Kevin de Bruyne (RCM)

He made an appearance off the bench against Everton and is back fit. The Belgian could get this game to get match rhythm ahead of a busy period.

Raheem Sterling (LW)

The Englishman came off the bench on Saturday and should be fresh to start from minute one, giving Leroy Sane a much-needed rest.

Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero (ST)

Aguero is back fit now, which is good news for the Cityzens. Expect him to start this game to get the momentum going.

Riyad Mahrez (RW)

The Algerian could keep his place on the right wing and play against his former team. The atmosphere might be a bit hostile for him.
