Ideal strike partner for Deeney? – This 27-year-old French should forget about moving to London and join Watford instead and here is why

Why Gregoire Defrel should move to Watford rather than a London side

Gregoire Defrel is a French striker who is currently plying his trade at Sampdoria in Italy. He is on loan from his parent club AS Roma, who are looking to sell the striker. A multitude of teams is presently scouting the 27-year-old with a large amount of interest coming from the Premier League.

According to reports from Sky Sports, three Premier League clubs are currently keen on the striker’s signature, namely West Ham United, Fulham and Watford.

It is rather unlikely that will Fulham will go through with signing the Frenchman, considering the kind of money that was spent in the summer. Aleksandar Mitrovic has been in decent form and Aboubakar Kamara also seems to have begun coming to the fore.

While the threat of relegation is real, the sheer quality in the squad should be enough to pull them through. Also, Defrel is an AS Roma player at the end of the day. Having scored 6 goals from 18 appearances for Sampdoria, he will not come overly cheap either.

West Ham have a strong attacking setup with experience and youthfulness in equal amounts. Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez are both proven Premier League strikers while Michail Antonio is also capable of the odd bit of brilliance. They even have former Arsenal man Lucas Perez as a backup, which makes this a stacked front line.

With quality players like Felipe Anderson, Aaron Cresswell and Jack Wilshere all available to support the strikers, West Ham should have no trouble sailing through the campaign while maintaining top-flight status in the process.

Watford have recently been playing some good football. Troy Deeney and Andre Grey are the regular striking options but Javi Gracia has even resorted to playing with Gerard Deulofeu in the striker’s role next to Deeney.

While Deeney is a target man and an excellent finisher, Defral could be the perfect strike partner for him. It would also allow Deulofeu to return to his preferred wide position.

Rather quick on the ball, his dribbling is his most feared asset. He moves the ball with excellent close control and finesse and seems to just flow while on the ball. Supplemented by Deeney’s brilliant hold-up play and forward flicks, Defral could prosper at Vicarage Road.

Hornets’ fans will be extremely hopeful that this potentially season-changing deal does work out for Javi Garcia.
