Ideal for all: Why Rangers over West Brom would be a much better destination for this promising Anfield starlet

Why Rangers is a better destination than West Brom for Ben Woodburn

According to a report in Birmingham Mail, Liverpool midfielder Ben Woodburn would be out on another loan move this month, with Championship club West Brom and Scottish giants Rangers interested.

The 19-year-old spent the first half of the season at Sheffield United but couldn’t harness much impact to catch the eye. Hence, the Reds found it right to cut that loan deal short, as it would have downgraded the confidence of a young player (h/t Birmingham Mail).

Making only seven appearances was the indication that Chris Wilder’s men never felt the need to use him.

Now, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to send Woodburn back on a loan spell, this time to make him play games on a regular basis (h/t Birmingham Mail). Rather than West Brom, here’s why Rangers would be an ideal destination for teenage Welshman:

Ben Woodburn

Steven Gerrard’s influence would play a part

The Gers are second in the table, level on points with champions Celtic, having played a game more. The win in the Old Firm Derby would have certainly enhanced their confidence to challenge the Hoops for the title this season.

Steven Gerrard’s men are out of the Europa League as well, hence, the midweek distraction wouldn’t be there. Thus, they can aim to be fresh for the remainder of the league games and give it their all in every match. If the Ibrox outfit manage to do that, then we will have a gruelling title race on our hands.

With the arrival of Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe in the squad, Rangers look equipped to go on a winning run. However, more depth in the attacking midfield department wouldn’t be a bad idea. Therefore, getting someone like Woodburn on a short-term deal would be perfect.

Steven Gerrard

The Welshman can play on either wing or as an attacking midfielder, providing Gerrard with options. From the 19-year-old’s point of view, moving to a club where its manager is the legend of a club he originally belongs to will be beneficial.

Gerrard can help Woodburn to grow as a player, give him the opportunities to showcase his talent and also remind him as to what is needed to be successful at Anfield. All in all, this could be an ideal move for both parties.
