Fulham 1-2 Tottenham: Spurs leave it late to snatch a dramatic win

Tottenham came from behind to strengthen their third place in the table with a narrow 2-1 win against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Incidentally, all the goals in the game were scored by Spurs players, unfortunately, with Fernando Llorente being the one to net on the wrong side. Dele Alli and Harry Winks scored a goal each to win the game for the visitors.

Moments after Aleksandar Mitrovic should have got a penalty after being hauled down by Jan Vertonghen, Llorente put the ball into his own net. The ball was whipped in with pace and the Spaniard lost sight of it in the crowd, before failing to sort his feet out. The result was him inadvertently kicking it into his own net.

Fulham had other chances in the first half to double their lead. A clipped ball by Ryan Babel found Andre Schurrle, whose volley was well saved by Hugo Lloris. In the follow-up, Mitrovic did score but from an offside position.

Moments before half-time, a clever backheel from Calum Chambers found Babel free in the box, however, Vertonghen came rushing in to make a goal-saving tackle.

Spurs upped their game in the second half and it took six minutes for them to level things up. After Tim Ream failed to clear the danger, Christian Eriksen picked up possession and delivered a peach of a cross towards Alli at the far post. The Englishman didn’t make any mistake from close-range.

The away side kept probing after that but the winner came in the 93rd minute when a fantastic George Nkoudou cross found the onrushing run of Harry Winks in the box. The latter then had a simple task of nodding the winner with seconds left on the click.

It was a vital win for Mauricio Pochettino’s men who had to respond after the 1-0 defeat to Man United last week. They weren’t at their best without Harry Kane and Son but got the job done.

Here’s how their fans reacted on Twitter after the game:
