Three Possible Ways Liverpool Could Line Up With Real Madrid Star Mateo Kovacic In The Team

Liverpool were previously interested in a move for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic but if latest reports are to be believed, the club could make a move for him sometime in the near future.

A central midfielder by trade, Kovacic could prove to be a valuable addition for Liverpool if they were to lose Philippe Coutinho. The Croat could be looking to clock more minutes on the field and he has been a bit unhappy with the lack of game time at the Santiago Bernabeu. Hence, a move to Liverpool does seem like a good option for all parties involved.

Even if Philippe Coutinho stays at Liverpool at the end of next summer, Jurgen Klopp could switch and rotate his attackers around to fit them all into the line-up. Moreover, in the event of an unforeseen injury or suspension, having a player like Kovacic could prove to be beneficial.

Back at Inter Milan, Kovacic was notorious for his ability to run and attack with the ball at his feet. His dribbling and creativity are his true strengths and he would do wonders in an attack-oriented team like Liverpool’s.

If he were to join though, how would Liverpool line up with him?

Option 1:

Of late, Klopp has deployed Coutinho as a central midfielder with Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson. In that case –

Philippe Coutinho (CM)

Coutinho takes up his place in the middle and uses his playmaking skills to support the players ahead of him.

Mateo Kovacic (CM)

The Brazilian can be partnered with Kovacic, who is also effective at orchestrating opportunities and would fit into Liverpool’s attack.

Sadio Mane (LW)

Mane patrols the left-wing as usual, using his pace and power to bludgeon his way through opponents.

Roberto Firmino (CF)

Firmino plays as a centre-forward. He could do wonders with the added support of Coutinho and Kovacic.

Mohamed Salah (RW)

Salah essays his usual role at right-wing.

Option 2:

If Mane were to miss out or pick up an injury, Klopp could deploy Coutinho in his place with Kovacic in a central midfield trio with either Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wijnaldum or Henderson. Salah and Firmino would be unchanged.

Option 3:

If Coutinho were to leave the club, things would get a bit easier for Klopp. Provided the front 3 comprise of Mane, Firmino and Salah, Kovacic could be a part of the same central midfield trio as mentioned above.

Hence, Kovacic will prove to be a strong asset irrespective of what the situation is. Klopp should most definitely make a move for him if he gets the chance.
