Barcelona 1-1 Tottenham: Spurs progress despite failing to win at Camp Nou

Tottenham Hotspur qualified for the last-16 stage of the Champions League in a dramatic fashion after playing out a 1-1 draw against Barcelona at the Camp Nou. With Inter Milan also drawing their game against PSV, Mauricio Pochettino’s side got through on away goals rule in a head-to-head battle with the Italian side.

Spurs went behind in the seventh minute, when Ousmane Dembele scored a fantastic solo goal. The Frenchman robbed Kyle Walker-Peters off the ball at the halfway line, cut it inside beyond the sliding challenge of Harry Winks and shot past Hugo Lloris.

With just five minutes and the away side desperately needing at least a goal, Harry Kane found Lucas Moura with a pinpoint cross. The latter finished it with aplomb to make sure his team reached the knockout stage of the competition.

Tottenham had other chances in the game. In fact, they mustered 17 attempts on goal in the game, seven of them on target. Barcelona had 14 attempts and three on target. Looking at the big picture, the home team did rest some of their key players, namely Lionel Messi, but the way Spurs approached this game was a refreshing sight.

Not many teams go to the Camp Nou and take the game to Barcelona. As a result, the English team were rewarded with a qualification as group runners-up. Hence, another tough draw in the last-16 stage will be around the corner. However, for now, the moment needs to be savoured after an incredible performance.

Here’s how these Tottenham fans reacted on social media following a special night in Europe for their team:
