Have Liverpool Found Their Next Manager?

Share

Steven Gerrard has openly admitted that he would like to manage Liverpool one day and that it would be an icing on the cake. The Liverpool captain is a legend in his own right at the club and the fans would certainly like to see him manage the club one day. In a interview recently, Gerrard has stated that he is reaching the end of his career and now is the time to think for the next phase. Quoted by the Mirror,

“The dream come true would be to manage Liverpool, when the Liverpool job becomes available. There are world-class managers there ready already but we’ll have to wait and see, it would be the icing on the cake. When you get to a certain age… my age, you need to start thinking seriously about a life after football. I just signed a one-year extension, I need to start planning for the future. I am planning on doing my badges and qualifications over the next 12 months.”

Gerrard has also admitted that he had a talk with former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher and the defender stated his wish to do the managerial job. But after retirement, the former defender has decided to take up media job.

“I definitely see myself as a manager rather than a coach, but that could change. I remember speaking to Jamie Carragher and he really fancied it but he’s decided media is what he wants to do.

“It’ll be strange seeing him on Sky but I’m really delighted he’s doing it – he can leave managing Liverpool to me.

While Brendan Rodgers is into his second year at Anfield and is on the verge of creating a decent looking squad that may propel them into the top 4, looking at Gerrard as the future manager of the Merseyside club doesn’t sound bad, right?

In other news, Victor Moses has mentioned that he has chosen to move to Liverpool on a loan deal to have more gametime and that not being on the teamsheet regularly would have hampered his career. The Nigerian moved to Liverpool on the last day of the transfer window on a season long loan deal. Rodgers was looking for a winger to try and move Coutinho to the centre of the pitch and he was quick to grasp the opportunity to sign Moses.

“Not playing games can really damage your career. The move to Chelsea was a massive step for me. I just wanted to go there, express myself and enjoy my football. It was a dream for me – but I want to keep strong and keep working hard at what I do. As a young footballer coming up, I just want to play games. Liverpool is a massive club and I just want to enjoy my football out on the pitch and try to help my team-mates. It is the right opportunity for me. It’s definitely the right move – this is a massive club, with all the history”, stated Moses.
