The Blues have always suffered a mysterious dip in performance come November, in the recent seasons. The fixtures against teams like West Ham, West Brom etc usually feature in the early winter month and Chelsea have usually blown away a lot of points. But now, the case has been ridiculous.
Chelsea built their momentum from the start of the season and now in November, we are actually seeing them nearing their peak. Tuesday’s destruction of Schalke and the weekend domination over West Brom are signs that the club has no longer fallen prey to November. Having a strong end to the year will all but ensure the league title to Chelsea, as the Blues could have an extravagant lead at the top in no time.
Chelsea boast of a lot of international stars in their team playing for their respective countries. But, that does have a toll in the international breaks that occur during the early winter months. Chelsea stars usually endure long hours of action without rest and then enter a busy November schedule where they have to wrap up the UCL group stages as well as the Premier League challenges that come up. November leads to an even busier December month though, but Chelsea find their momentum back by then.
Controversies galore. Jose Mourinho proved that two of his key players in Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas are not fit to feature in the international break. Some people even questioned the two stars’ commitment towards their national team, notably Sergio Ramos. But, Chelsea finally kept both the players in London so that they recover fully from the niggles they were suffering from. Moreover other stars like Hazard, Azpilicueta and Oscar took time out participate in international matches as well but these players revel in the new playing style of Chelsea, especially Cesar Azpilicueta who has unbelievable energy. Couple more players in Schürrle and Ramires chose to rest and rebuild their fitness. Mourinho ensured that Chelsea’s back bone remained focused even during the international break.
We all know how strong Chelsea’s squad is. It has immense depth, especially this season, to cope with any sort of challenge, and to be honest, Chelsea would have managed with a bit of international break fatigue as well. It is just that the Blues started building their best form from November, which has been a sinister month especially since the last two seasons, that put added excitement into the hearts of the supporters.
